Poetry As A Spiritual Practice
I am honored to be part of this book.
Insomnia's Ink by Susie Clevenger is now available on Amazon
Insomnia’s Ink is birthed from night hours of little sleep, caffeine, and open eyed dreaming. Sit with Susie Clevenger beneath a forty watt moon and explore the shadow and light of emotions that visit her between midnight and the birdsong of morning.
"Moon fed on imagination through screen wire I tucked words into hours until dreams found ink." ~ Insomnia's Ink ~ Susie Clevenger
What people are saying about Insomnia's Ink
"Susie Clevenger is a seasoned poet, writing with all the force of years behind her. I have probably read this book three or four times already (to be honest, I’ve lost count). There is a high mastery of structure and emotion in her verse from which the reader cannot easily escape. I find myself drawn back to the comfort and truth she delivers so readily. Tremendous poetry for those who wish to understand and feel." ~ Ben Ditmars
"Susie Clevenger has a way of putting even two words together that strike a chord in the reader's consciousness. Good poetry is like a key that unlocks a stuck door. These poems instantly transported me to a higher plane of thought and feeling." ~ Stacey Roberts
"Beautiful, eloquent, and a touch darker than her first collected works, Insomnia's Ink speaks to the soul and paints beautiful imagery of nighttime, sunsets, and raw human emotion." ~ WindTrail Publishing
Life isn' t a smooth road. It is an ebb and flow of joy and sorrow. Join poet Susie Clevenger, as she takes the reader on a journey through experience. She toughens her feet by walking barefoot on gravel, and then finds herself rebelliously kicking up sand until she finally learns the joy of dancing in dust. In this collection you will share in the growth of a soul, and view life s joy and sorrow through the unique vision of Susie s pen.
A look inside the book
There are no tears
a poem cannot cry.
It gathers them
within its ink
to give sorrow a name.
Its verses wrap
the heart in comfort
and shares the burden
of grief’s weight.
A poem is the voice
when flesh retreats.
The friend that holds you
when your arms are empty
I am a dreamer.
I see yes
when the world
is covered in no.
What people are saying about Dirt Road Dreams
"Life is a journey and nothing tells its story better than good poetry. Dirt Road Dreams may appear unassuming from the cover but the simplicity is short lived. Susie Clevenger's words, in essence, are that road - curving boldly through the depth of her experience. It is not always nicely paved and you will get dirty time to time. Clevenger is a real woman, her perceptions and emotions relatable while at the same time deeply profound. Her worldliness is grounded in reality. " Ben Ditmars
"Susie Clevenger's poetry touches the heart with beauty and depth in her first poetry collection, Dirt Road Dreams. With precision and tenderness, each poem delivers satisfaction; and not one word is wasted. You are bound to be touched by Susie's journey through gravel, sand and dust. I highly recommend Dirt Road Dreams". Laurie Kolp
"Susie Clevenger's aptly-titled Dirt Road Dreams is a moving and tender collection of poems straight from the heart of experience. I want to hug Susie's words--sometimes to comfort and tell them everything will be okay, sometimes to experience their energy by osmosis. This volume is simply beautiful and real from beginning to end." Marian Kent
"Susie Clevenger is a rising voice in contemporary poetry. Her debut release, Dirt Road Dreams, gives us a glimpse of her journey. Susie travels her road with a confident pen, delivering honest, rich poetry that engages and touches the reader." Natasha Head
